Snow.

“We’ve had a ton of it,” Carol Hill-Evans, York City Council president, said at Tuesday night’s meeting.

She said the city has had a lot of successes in dealing with the winter storms, as well as some complaints. She expressed gratitude all those who helped clear out, whether city workers or residents, and thanked everyone for their patience, too.

Council Vice President Henry Nixon echoed her sentiments and said he thought the city’s public works team did a “sensational job” in spite of some complaints. He also complimented the mayor for declaring snow emergencies early enough for residents to get their cars into garages before the snow hit.

Councilman Michael Helfrich urged continued caution, though. There are still some bad streets out there, he said, complete with what seem like “ice potholes.”

Helfrich and Hill-Evans asked residents to clear their storm drains if they can. Helfrich said some of the city’s worst flooding has been caused by rapid melting of snow.
